My cousin’s dog, Chakkah, died today of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
He was 10 years old.

My dog, Billy (left), and Chakkah (right) practicing detente
My cousin and his dog lived with me for several months after they moved to Boston from Montana in 2000. Billy & Chakkah had a sort of detente. No fights or arguments, but they each had their own end of the sofa. They would race each other at the sound of the cookie box opening and try to hip check the other out of the way to be first in line.

Tolerating a nail clipping
He liked treats, frisbee, and if you pointed your finger and said “Bang!” he’d play dead. He never liked the city much, and after a stay of a few years, they all moved to Vermont where he was much happier.
He was a good dog.
