Well, I'm back on the hulver.  Took a little break was suppose to last until sept but something today nudged it ahead.

Thanks to all that the people who wished me luck during my motorcycle course.  I was suppose to be sleep deprived but the first day got a call not to come in for work, second day called in sick, and third day took the m1 to m2 test and then went to work.  Last day did stay up for some 40 hours but luckily the testing was done at the start of those hours.  Figured I might as well be in my best mental state when doing the exam(sorry no amphetamines).  The course was just what I needed, since haven't driven before and needed to learn everything.  I somehow did manage to pass even though all the instructors thought I was a hopeless case(me too).  Two individuals did fail and the other 8 passed.  Somehow this thing of me driving on the road is going to easy.  I shouldn't be allowed to go on the roads.  Spend sometime with a nice Russian/Israeli girl that was taking the course with me.

Today I exchanged funds and papers for a Kawasaki Ninja ex250, 1996.  I really hate the paint job but I can live with it until I paint it over.  I still have to find insurance, go to transfer the paper work, get plates, pick up the bike.  Hopefully I'll get all of it done by Monday.  Depending on my learning curve on the bike I might be going on a trip sooner or later.

Sept. 5 I'm starting a new job, I should be making a little more.  I know two people that already work there, one from school, and another from my current job.  It might be time for me to find a place for myself once I start this job.  A friend's folks were kind enough to let me house keep their place while there are on vacation for the summer.

There are other stuff I may or may not include in some diaries that happened/are happening.

Almost forgot to write about my little cousin.  But that will require a diary on it's own(maybe tomorrow).

I hope you saved enough money for gear by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #1 Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 11:13:15 AM EST
oddly, foot and leg injuries are more common than upper body injuries, so you should have good boots, armored pants, armored jacket, gloves and a full face helmet. Ear plugs too if you want to ride at highway speeds.

Congrats, and the Ninjette is a sweet bike.

Have everything meant for gear, except pants.  Boots for riding, covers ankle so on.  Full faced helmet, etc.  I'll stay away from the highway until I feel comfortable with the roads.

newenough.com is darn cheap by georgeha (4.00 / 1) #3 Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 03:50:05 PM EST
for closeout/discontinued gear (I bought a flashy $300 HJC full face for about $100) but the customs/shipping might be a lot.

Dont worry about the paint by creo (4.00 / 1) #4 Sat Aug 26, 2006 at 10:42:27 PM EST
as you will almost certainly chuck it at least once. I endorse Mr. Ha's comment about gear - if I had have been using a back protector, I probably would not have broken my back when I cannoned into that tree. These days you can get some really cool riding gear with all the armour - I use this and matching pants.

Strangely enough you probably won't have too much issues on the highway, as traffic generally flows and you do not have to worry about driveways, dogs etc. Get your "bike radar" in tune- the only way to do this is lots of riding, and unfortunately some near misses. After a while you will just "know" that that cage driving fuckwit is going to change lanes without indicating.

Also good feel for bike control can be developed in the dirt - so if you are really keen - try to pick up a cheap chookchaser - assuming you are near some place you can ride it - and go sick. You will fall off lots, but get a good feel for how a motorcycle works.

Other than that, good luck, happy travels, YMMV etc.
